Monk's Dream is the first album jazz musician Thelonious Monk released on Columbia Records. It was recorded in 1962 and issued the following year

Thelonious Sphere Monk became an American jazz pianist and composer. He had a completely unique improvisational fashion and made severa contributions to the same old jazz repertoire, consisting of "'round midnight," "Blue Monk," "immediately, No Chaser," "Ruby, My dear," "In Walked Bud," and "properly, You needn't." Monk is the second one-most-recorded jazz composer after Duke Ellington, that is especially fantastic as Ellington composed more than one thousand pieces, whereas Monk wrote approximately 70.
Monk's compositions and improvisations characteristic dissonances and angular melodic twists and are constant with his unorthodox technique to the piano, which blended a noticeably percussive assault with abrupt, dramatic use of switched key releases, silences, and hesitations. His fashion was now not universally preferred; the poet and jazz critic Philip Larkin brushing off him as 'the elephant on the keyboard'.
Monk turned into famend for a awesome appearance which protected fits, hats, and shades. He become additionally noted for an idiosyncratic habit for the duration of performances: while different musicians persevered playing, Monk stopped, stood up and danced for a few moments before returning to the piano.
Monk is considered one of 5 jazz musicians featured on the duvet of Time magazine. The others, up to now, are Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington and Wynton Marsalis.
